A major scam has recently come to light where it is seen that menu users are using fake SIMs by the name of different people without the consent or knowledge of the users. They are using their SIM for illegal activities which later makes you the culprit.
Should you be concerned or not?
As an individual and citizen of this country, it’s your right to know who is using your Aadhar number with their phone in illegal activities. This will directly make you involved in the criminal activities and full investigation will be fine at that stage. There are many cases when such fraudsters have used different phone numbers for money laundering or extortion etc. This will put you and your identity at high risk.
How to check if Fake SIM are linked to your Aadhaar or not?
There’s a simple steps which you need to filet to know if someone is using a fake number on your behalf ( provided by Indian government.
Step by step guide
- Go to official website of telecom verification portal
- Find the section where you can verify mobile number linked to your identity
- Enter number which is linked with your Aadhaar
- Verify the OTP sent to your phone
- You will get the list of all the SIM card issued by your name
After you verified the list, if you didn’t know any such number which is there in the list, simply mark them as ” not required ” or “not my number”. Once you do that, report it immediately. Upon review the number which you marked as not my number will be removed or dislinked or discontinued, if found unauthorised.
SIM insurance rules which you must be aware of
- Maximum of 9 sums are allowed per user per Aadhaar
- Regions like Jammu and Kashmir, Assam and north east region, maximum of 6 SIM number are showed
What actions you can take?
- Firstly report any unknown number immediately though the official website
- Lock you Aadhaar verification temporarily to prevent any misuse
- Constantly review credit report to check any sign of fraudulent activities or any loan
If you find any suspicious activity which is not initiated by you then report to cybercrime and file a FIR with local police for further investigation.
