Bihar Voter List Update 2025: Bihar’s voter list may lose 35 lakh names after the Election Commission’s special revision drive. Find out why so many voters could be removed and what the Supreme Court’s next hearing means for the 2025 assembly election.
Bihar Voter List Update 2025: 35 Lakh Names May Be Removed, EC Revision Sparks Debate
Bihar will face assembly elections this year and now the Election Commission has started a special drive to clean up the voter list. This special revision campaign is going on in full swing and most voters have already filled the form needed for it.
The Commission shared a big update on Monday. It said that almost every voter has got the enumeration form EF in hand and most have submitted it. So far around 6.6 crore voters in Bihar have given their forms back. This covers about 88 percent of the total voters in the state. People still have time till 25 July to submit their forms and after that the final list will come out.
Why So Many Names Will Be Removed
Many people in Bihar will be shocked when the new list comes out. The latest data shows that nearly 35 lakh names will not be there anymore. There are clear reasons for this. Around 12.5 lakh people have died but their names are still on the voter list. Around 17.5 lakh people have left Bihar for good so they cannot vote here anymore. Plus about 5.5 lakh names were found twice in the records. The numbers add up to around 35.5 lakh names that will be deleted so the list stays clean.
Foreign Names found Too
The Commission also said that they found names of some people from Nepal or Bangladesh or Myanmar in the voter list. These names do not belong in the Bihar voter list so they will also be removed.
Case Is In Supreme Court
This entire matter is being looked at by the Supreme Court too. Earlier the court asked the Election Commission to verify voter names with Aadhaar or ration card or voter ID so fake names can be removed. Many people believe this step will make the voter list stronger but some feel it can cause fresh problems or disputes before the polls. The court will hear the case again on 28 July so all eyes are on what happens next.
For now the Election Commission has made it clear that every voter must submit correct details. Officials like BLOs are visiting homes in cities and villages so no voter is left out. Many political experts think this drive will help clean up old records but the removal of so many names may turn into a big talking point as the election date comes closer.
