Chennai Weather Update: Chennai residents, today will be a day of rain. According to the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rain is expected in the city on October 18th. The morning minimum temperature will be 25.9 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature during the day could reach 30.9 degrees Celsius. The air humidity is expected to be 76%, and the wind speed will be 14.4 km/h.
The rain is having a positive impact on air quality. Yesterday, the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 46, which is considered ‘good’. According to experts, today’s rain will further clean the air. The level of fine particulate matter, PM2.5 and PM10, was 38 µg/m³, both within safe limits. Although carbon monoxide levels are slightly elevated at 536 µg/m³, overall air quality remains better than normal.
The most significant aspect of today is the possibility of moderate rain in the afternoon. Therefore, people are advised to carry an umbrella or a raincoat if going out. The morning will be better for outdoor activities, but the chances of rain will increase in the evening.
The weather forecast for the coming days indicates that the rain will continue. Heavy rain is expected on October 19th, with temperatures ranging between 25.2 and 26.7 degrees Celsius. Moderate rain is expected on Monday and Tuesday, while light rain may bring relief on Wednesday. The temperature may drop to 24.8 degrees Celsius on Thursday.
A Meteorological Department official said, “This series of rains is improving Chennai’s air quality. We are currently experiencing some of the cleanest days this month.” He added that this situation may persist for the next few days.
