Cyclone warning: The Odisha Disaster Management Department is on high alert amid warnings of heavy rain and strong winds. A cyclonic system formed in the Bay of Bengal is expected to bring heavy rainfall to the coastal and southern districts of the state from October 27th. However, weather experts predict that the storm may move towards Andhra Pradesh instead of directly hitting the Odisha coast.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari stated that the state administration is fully prepared. He said, “Odisha is highly vulnerable to natural disasters. The Health, Water Resources, Energy, and Agriculture departments are fully prepared. The local administration has made arrangements for relief centers, emergency evacuations, and essential supplies in particularly vulnerable areas. We appeal to citizens to remain calm rather than panic.”
Meteorological Department’s Warning
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a low-pressure area was observed in the southeast Bay of Bengal on October 24th. This system is likely to intensify into a depression by October 25th, a deep depression by October 26th, and a cyclonic storm by October 27th. The department has issued a yellow alert for the entire state. Authorities have completed all preparations in view of the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall and strong winds in some areas.
According to experts, strong winds of 40-50 kilometers per hour are expected along the south Odisha coast from October 27, with gusts up to 60 kilometers per hour possible in some areas.
The state government has appealed to the public to take necessary precautions and avoid unnecessary travel. The disaster management team is continuously monitoring the situation, and relief operations are on standby.
The preparedness for this cyclone in Odisha not only demonstrates the administration’s readiness but also highlights the importance of civil security and timely rescue.
