Before the Delhi elections, BJP promised that every eligible woman would receive ₹2500 per month under the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana. Months have passed since the polls, yet women are still waiting for this benefit. No registration process or online application link has gone live so far. Meanwhile, opposition parties continue to criticize BJP over the delay.
₹5000 Crore Budget Approved, Says BJP Chief
Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva recently gave an update during a media event. He said, the central leadership has already approved a ₹5000 crore budget for the women’s welfare scheme. He added that the main work now is to finalize the distribution process, which is taking time due to past mismanagement in earlier schemes.
Past Scheme Scams Slowing Down New Rollout
Sachdeva blamed the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for major irregularities in older schemes. He claimed that more than 83,000 ineligible women were found receiving widow pensions, with no proper records available. Around ₹200 crore is said to be untraceable.
In another case, the Jai Bhim Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas Yojana, which had a budget of ₹15 crore, reportedly spent ₹145 crore – raising serious concerns. BJP says they are being extra cautious to ensure the new women’s scheme doesn’t suffer the same fate.
₹2500 Scheme Likely to Launch Around Independence Day
Although no date has been fixed so far, it is reported that the announcement date will be August 15. The Delhi government will release the complete details of the scheme, including eligibility and application procedure.
It is expected that families with an annual income below ₹2.5 lakh will be eligible for the scheme. The final guidelines are being prepared. One tricky issue is when more than one woman lives in a family like a mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. Officials are planning to treat them as separate family units so that both can receive the ₹2500 support.
The BJP government in Delhi says they want to ensure public money reaches only the rightful beneficiaries. That’s why Mahila Samriddhi Yojana is being slow to be launched. With a massive ₹5000 crore already approved, and a possible Independence Day announcement ahead, women across Delhi may finally hear the good news they’ve been waiting for.
