According to the District Disaster Management Authority, more than 100 mm of rain was recorded in just four hours. A flood of water spread due to the breaking of a dam built towards the Aravali in the village of Kadarpur. Many houses were flooded due to water filling up to five to six feet.

Long queues of vehicles were seen on the Delhi-Jaipur Highway, Sohna Road, Sheetla Mata Road, and Dwarka Expressway. At many places, people were pulled out of the water with the help of tractors. Three young men and women trapped in an SUV were rescued by villagers.

Visibility decreased in Delhi, and flights were delayed

Amid rain in Delhi, the visibility level at Palam Airport dropped to 800 meters on Monday afternoon. Due to this, flight operations were badly affected. According to Flightradar24, 448 flights were affected, out of which 95 incoming and 353 scheduled flights were delayed. The Delhi Airport Administration has appealed to the passengers to remain in touch with the airlines.

Danger of flood in the Yamuna, administration on alert

With the rain, another danger has increased for Delhi. The water level of the Yamuna River is continuously rising, and it is estimated that it may reach about one meter above the danger mark on Tuesday. The government has asked the people living in low-lying areas to remain alert.

The Delhi Disaster Management Department (DDMA) on Monday issued an order to close the old railway bridge. As soon as the water level crosses 206 meters, movement on the bridge will be stopped from 5 pm on Tuesday. Trains passing through the same have also been instructed to run at limited speed.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta assured Delhiites that the government is ready for every situation. She said that flood control teams are on alert 24 hours a day, and special monitoring is being done on the areas along the Yamuna.

Work from home and online classes in Gurugram

In view of heavy rains, the Gurugram district administration directed corporate offices to make employees work from home. At the same time, all schools were advised to run online classes on Tuesday. Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar said that the Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert, so precautionary measures are being taken.

Heavy rain and traffic jams in Delhi

The rain that started in Delhi on Monday afternoon continued till late evening. Safdarjung recorded 18.6 mm, Palam 30.8 mm, Aya Nagar 48.9 mm, and Lodhi Road 16.2 mm of rain. Due to the rain, the problem of jams in many areas made people miserable.

Like Gurugram, vehicles were seen crawling on the roads of Delhi. The situation of jam persisted at many places till late at night, and people were stranded for hours.

Metro services are also affected

Delhi Metro services were also affected amid the rain. Operations were disrupted due to a tree branch falling on the Blue Line late on Monday evening. Trains were halted for more than an hour, increasing the trouble of passengers during peak hours. People stood at crowded stations, and it took twice the time to reach their destination. Passengers also expressed their displeasure on social media.

Weather Department’s alert: The period of rain will continue

The Indian Meteorological Department has also warned of heavy rain for Delhi-NCR on Tuesday. Heavy rain is expected, especially in Gurugram and Faridabad. Light to moderate rain is expected in many parts of Delhi.

In view of the orange alert, the administration is fully alert. People may have to face problems due to waterlogging on the road, power cuts, and traffic jams.
