Chandigarh is heading into a dramatic weather week as the sky turns stormy and unpredictable. According to the India Meteorological Department IMD the city will face daily rainfall and morning thunderstorms while a sudden heatwave may hit by the weekend. A rain and thunderstorm alert has been issued till July 9 so residents should stay weather aware.

The IMD has said that Chandigarh and nearby areas will receive moderate to heavy rain along with thunderstorms and lightning till Tuesday. The showers may bring some relief from the heat but more changes are coming as the week progresses.

The week began with a sky full of clouds and mild rain. Thunder was heard early in the morning but the rest of the day remained calm. The temperature stayed around 29°C so it felt slightly humid but manageable.
July 8 to 9: Thunderstorms in the Morning and Heavy Rain Likely
Tuesday and Wednesday are likely to be wet and stormy especially in the early hours. There may be thunder and lightning in the morning so it is better to leave early for school or work and take an umbrella. Roads could be blocked or flooded in some areas.
July 10: Showers in Morning Thunder by Afternoon
Rain may return on Thursday morning and thunder could follow in the afternoon. Roads might become slippery and water may collect in low-lying areas so it is important to drive carefully and stay updated through local alerts.

Rainfall Breaking Records in Chandigarh
June 2025 became one of the wettest months in a decade with 213 mm of rainfall which is 37 percent above normal. On June 29 alone the city received 119.5 mm of rain which is the highest in a single day since 1973. July has already started with strong rain and is currently 15 percent above normal levels.
