Once again, irregularities have surfaced in the process of adding names to the Kanya Utthan Yojana portal and providing its benefits to graduate girls. Female students from places like Bagaha, Bettiah, and Sitamarhi have reached out to the university, alleging that they are being asked to pay ₹3,000 to ₹4,000 by college staff. Many also expressed disappointment as the government portal has not yet been opened. Officials clarified that the portal has not been made live by the government yet.
Money Demands Emerge as Middlemen Step In
Under the Kanya Utthan Yojana, which offers benefits to female students who have completed graduation, intermediaries are once again exploiting the process. These individuals are charging ₹3,000 to ₹4,000 from students to get their names added to the official portal. More than half a dozen girls have approached the university with complaints. They had come seeking further information about the scheme.
Students Push Back Against Unofficial Payments
Girls travelling from Bettiah, Bagaha, Sitamarhi, and other such places said that a college administrator was demanding ₹3,000 to ₹4,000 from them to upload their name and marks on the portal. When students did not give money, they thought of visiting the university to obtain proper information.
Official Portal Still Inactive, Say Authorities
On the other hand, the Kanya Utthan Yojana portal is still not open. Because of this, dozens of students arrive daily seeking information and leave disappointed. DSW Dr. Alok Pratap Singh clarified that the portal has not yet been opened at the government level. He advised students not to fall into the trap of intermediaries.
No Internet at DSW Office for Months
The internet at the DSW office has been non-functional for the past three months, severely affecting the work related to the Kanya Utthan Yojana. Staff informed that they are confronted with extremely difficult challenges because of the breakdown in connectivity. Consequently, students who report for follow-ups are being referred back without assistance. It is reported that the internet connection has not been replenished for the past three months. While the staff members previously contributed to buying it from their own pockets, reimbursements have proved to be extremely challenging.
