Major rift in Lalu family: Rohini Acharya leaves politics and family after Bihar defeat

Rohini Acharya: Following the RJD’s crushing defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections, not only the party but Lalu Prasad Yadav’s family is also embroiled in a deep crisis. Just days after the defeat, Lalu Yadav’s daughter, Rohini Acharya, suddenly announced her decision to leave politics and distance herself from the family. This decision has created a stir in the state’s political landscape.

Rohini clearly stated in a social media post that she was retiring from politics and severing ties with the family. She also stated that she was asked to do so by Sanjay Yadav and Rameez and that she was taking full responsibility for this decision. Her statement has raised numerous questions within both the party and the family.

The RJD is already grappling with internal divisions. Lalu Yadav’s eldest son, Tej Pratap Yadav, was estranged from the party and the family before the elections. Tej Pratap contested the elections on the ticket of his new party, the Janshakti Janata Dal, but failed to win.

Sanjay Yadav’s name is not a new controversy. Sanjay Yadav, considered a close advisor to Tejashwi Yadav, has previously caused disagreements over the growing influence of family politics. Tej Pratap has also openly supported his sister Rohini on several occasions. Recently, he stated in an interview that he swears on the Gita that no matter what, he will not return to the RJD. He also stated unequivocally that he will punish those who insult Rohini with the “Sudarshan Chakra.”

Rohini’s post has made it clear that the discord within the Lalu family has now come to the fore. Discontent within the party after the defeat, questions about leadership, and the increasing role of advisors have all further heated up the political atmosphere.
