Monsoon Alert: Monsoon has once again picked up pace across the country. From north to south and northeastern states, trouble is raining from the sky. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rains for the next few days for Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, and many parts of Northeast India. Floods, landslides, and waterlogging are occurring in these states, affecting life.
Clouds rained like havoc in Uttarakhand
This year, the monsoon is proving to be heavier than normal in Uttarakhand. Due to torrential rains in hilly districts like Uttarkashi, Nainital, and Pauri, incidents of landslides and road blockages are being reported continuously. Electricity, water, and communication systems are disrupted in many areas.
The Meteorological Department has described the next 24 hours as “extremely sensitive” and said that there is a danger of excessive rain, i.e., extremely heavy rain in some areas. Relief and rescue operations are going on, but due to continuous rain, rescue operations are also facing difficulties.
Rivers rising and floods in Uttar Pradesh
The situation is worsening in many districts of Uttar Pradesh. It is raining continuously in western Uttar Pradesh, especially in Bijnor, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Shamli, and Saharanpur. The water level of the rivers is rising rapidly, and life is affected due to waterlogging in low-lying areas. Floods are expected in districts like Bijnor and Muzaffarnagar. The Meteorological Department estimates that the intensity of rain may decrease after August 7, but till then, it is necessary to keep a close watch on the situation.
The threat of continuous rain in the northeastern states
A heavy rain warning has been issued in Northeast India for the next seven days. There is a possibility of excessive rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya. The administration has been put on alert due to the possibility of landslides. The water level of the rivers is increasing due to continuous rain, and a flood situation may arise in rural areas. The Meteorological Department has warned that the next few days can be very challenging in the Northeast and adjoining states.
Situation is getting worse in Himachal, Bihar, Odisha
Due to heavy rains in many parts of Himachal Pradesh, rocks are sliding on the mountains, affecting traffic. The flood situation in Bihar and Odisha has increased the trouble of the people. Many villages have been submerged, and people are taking shelter in safe places. The administration is engaged in relief and rehabilitation efforts, but the situation is continuously worsening.
Delhi and NCR weather will be pleasant, but vigilance is necessary
The Meteorological Department has predicted light rain in Delhi and the surrounding areas. On Monday i.e., August 8, there may be light drizzle with thunder, while there will not be much change in temperature. However, people have been advised to be alert to deal with problems like waterlogging and traffic jams.
Rainfall remains a challenge across the country
Overall, monsoon is becoming a big challenge across the country. While on one hand the rain has given relief, on the other hand, its excessive form is now becoming havoc. Ignoring the warnings of the Meteorological Department can be like inviting danger. From the administration to the common citizens, everyone needs to be cautious at this time. This is a time to be very cautious, especially for people living in hilly and flood-prone areas.
