LinkedIn tightens its grip on fake HR and job scams: Today, as easy as it has become to find a job on the Internet, it has become equally difficult to differentiate between real and fake opportunities. Especially on professional sites like LinkedIn, people connect directly with companies and recruiters. But taking advantage of this facility, thousands of job seekers have become victims of fake profiles and fraud.
Often fraudsters ask for money from candidates by claiming to be HR managers or officers of a big company. Sometimes even fake offer letters and fake interview calls are sent. Due to this, there is always doubt in the minds of job seekers.
LinkedIn’s new weapon: Verified badge
To end this problem, LinkedIn has taken a big step in India. Now, companies, recruiters, and senior officials will be able to get their accounts “Verified”. This will mean that whenever a job seeker connects with someone, it will be immediately known whether the person in front is real or fake.
This verified badge found on the company page will be proof of authenticity. This will make it easier for candidates to understand whether they are talking to a real employer or are being deceived by a fraudster.
Recruiters will now be under scrutiny
A job seeker first contacts a recruiter. This is the reason why fraudsters cheat most people by calling themselves HR or recruiters. This will not work on LinkedIn now.
According to the new system, any person who calls himself a recruiter will have to get it verified by their company. That is, if a recruiter talks to a candidate, the candidate will be able to immediately see whether he is actually associated with the company or is just using a fake identity.
The fake glamour of big positions is over
Another dangerous way of fraud is to show oneself as a big officer. Many fake profiles are created on LinkedIn in which the position is written – “Vice President”, “Managing Director”, or “HR Head”. It becomes easy to convince candidates by the name of these posts and people become victims of fraud.
LinkedIn has now closed this loophole as well. High-level posts will no longer be shown on the profile without verification. Its direct effect will be that no one will be able to mislead candidates by posing as a fake officer.
Why is this step necessary for India
India is the world’s largest market for LinkedIn. Every month, millions of people use this platform in search of jobs. But along with this, job scams are also increasing rapidly.
Sometimes an interview call comes from a fake call center, and sometimes a fake offer letter is sent via email. In many cases, incidents of extorting money from candidates have come to the fore. In such an environment, this verification feature of LinkedIn will give new security to job seekers.
Step towards safe job search
It would be wrong to say that the verification feature will completely end fraud. But this step will prove to be very important in building trust. When a job seeker is sure that the person or company in front of him is verified by LinkedIn, his confidence will increase.
For the youth of India, who visit this platform daily in search of their career, this feature is a big relief. In the digital age where the methods of fraud are also getting smarter, this step of LinkedIn will prove to be a safety shield for job seekers.
