Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 2.0: It is considered a basic need of any society for every citizen to have their own house. But even today, there are crores of people in the country who live in slums, or due to high rent, the dream of becoming a house owner is limited to dreams only. In view of these problems, the Central Government started the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in the year 2015. This scheme has provided homes to lakhs of families so far. In this episode, now the government has started its next phase Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 2.0, which will focus on providing pucca houses to more poor and needy families.
Why is Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 2.0 special?
After the success of the first phase, the central government has given a bigger shape to the scheme. Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 2.0 is not just a housing scheme, but it is a mission to change the lifestyle of the poor section. This time, the government has especially focused on the deprived sections of the society. For those who have always lived under the roof of others, this scheme has now brought a new ray of hope.
Families living in slums, citizens of Scheduled Castes and Tribes, minority communities, widows, disabled, destitute, and sanitation workers—all these groups will be given direct financial assistance to build houses. Not only this, classes like Anganwadi workers and artisans have also been included in the scope of this scheme.
Who will get the benefit of the house?
The benefit of the scheme will be given to those citizens who do not have their own pucca house anywhere in the country. The government has fixed the eligibility on the basis of income group so that more and more needy families can join this scheme.
People whose annual income is up to three lakh rupees will come under the economically weaker section i.e., EWS. The income limit for the low-income group (LIG) has been fixed at three to six lakh rupees, while middle-class (MIG) citizens whose income is six to nine lakh rupees will also be able to avail the benefits of the scheme.
Application process: Easy and transparent
The government has made the application process very simple and transparent. Any eligible citizen can apply through the online portal. Apart from this, the facility of application will also be available in the local Municipal Corporation, Municipal Council or Gram Panchayat offices. After the verification of the application is completed, the government will transfer financial assistance to the eligible families directly to their bank accounts. With this amount, they will be able to build their new house or complete the incomplete house.
Wings to the dreams of the poor
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 2.0 does not just promise to give a house, but it is an attempt to turn those dreams into reality, which the poor have suppressed till date. Living a safe life under one roof, a permanent environment for children to study, and a life full of self-respect for women—all this will now be possible.
The central government believes that when every family has its own house, stability and economic empowerment will automatically increase in the society. This is the reason why this scheme is being considered as one of the biggest social campaigns in the country.
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 2.0 has given new hope to those who could not even dream of becoming homeowners till now. This initiative of the government will not only reduce the housing crisis but will also prove to be a big step towards social equality. Now it remains to be seen how many families benefit from this scheme in the coming years and give a new direction to their lives.
