Punjab’s Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana: ₹10 Lakh Free Health Card for 65 Lakh Families from October 2

Millions of people are hopeful as the Punjab government introduces the Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana, a health insurance program providing free and cashless treatment up to ₹10 lakh annually per household. The announcement was made in Chandigarh, where Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal introduced the Sehat Card, which will be the gate to access the program.

Who Will Benefit?

The scheme is projected to benefit approximately 6.5 million families across the state, marking a significant step toward inclusive development. The card will be valid at both government and private hospitals, making healthcare easily accessible for people from every walk of life be it farmers, traders, government employees, or pensioners.

Even those already covered under the central government’s health plans won’t be left out. They’ll get an extra ₹5 lakh top-up from the Punjab government under this initiative.

CM Bhagwant Mann spoke with emotion as he explained how this new scheme would remove the stress of medical bills. “Earlier, people were stuck in confusion with blue and yellow ration cards. But now, with the Sehat Card, the color of the card doesn’t matter. Everyone will get treatment,” he said.

The health card will allow access to cashless treatment for over 2,000 illnesses, including major surgeries and chronic conditions.

When Will It Start?

The plan will be launched on October 2, and registration camps will be opened all over Punjab so that citizens can obtain their Sehat Cards. CM Bhagwant Mann gave citizens a guarantee that not just small government hospitals but also large, name-brand hospitals will be part of the network, and quality care will be accessible to all.

“No resident should worry about money before going to the hospital,” CM Bhagwant Mann said. “Take your Aadhaar card, show your Sehat Card, and get treated. That’s all.”

Health Minister Calls It a Blessing

Health Minister Balbir Singh called the scheme a blessing for Punjab. He emphasized how people won’t have to think twice before seeking help. “This is a game-changer for the poor and middle class,” he said.

He also took a moment to applaud the AAP model, adding that even international cities like New York are drawing inspiration from what Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann have built.

It’s not a government vow, it’s a lifeline. In the face of spiraling healthcare expenses, this ₹10 lakh health protection will be a huge relief to families battling serious illness or chronic disease.

It’s not a paper plan, it’s a step towards a healthier Punjab where no one will be forced to opt between life-saving therapy and destitution.
