Rain wreaks havoc in Mumbai: After the torrential rains that lashed Mumbai late last night, the weather brought some relief on Sunday morning, but light to moderate rain continued throughout the day in the city and suburbs. Several areas also experienced intermittent heavy rain. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, and Palghar districts, which will remain in effect until Monday morning. The warning states that extremely heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning are likely in these areas.
Railway services have also been affected by the rain. Local trains on the Central Railway and Western Railway are running with a few minutes’ delay, although Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) bus services are operating normally. According to Meteorological Department data, in the last 24 hours till 8 am on Sunday, South Mumbai recorded an average of 71.99 mm of rainfall, Eastern Suburbs 70.44 mm, and Western Suburbs 81.42 mm. Additionally, a high tide of 3.24 meters is expected at 2:55 pm today, and a low tide of 1.31 meters at 8:50 pm.
The government has appealed to the general public to follow official instructions from the administration and avoid unnecessary travel. People are especially advised to stay away from flood-prone areas and waterlogged roads. Citizens have also been cautioned against taking shelter under trees during thunderstorms and not to believe rumors.
