RRB JE Recruitment 2025: The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has released the highly anticipated recruitment notification for Junior Engineer (JE) positions for the year 2025. Applications are invited for a total of 2,570 vacant positions under this recruitment drive. Interested and eligible candidates can apply online on the official website, rrbapply.gov.in, from October 31, 2025. The last date for the application process is November 30, 2025.
Comparison with Previous Years: The Truth About the Drastic Decline in Vacancies
Important information for candidates in this recruitment is that the number of positions is significantly lower than last year. In 2024, RRB JE announced recruitment for 7,951 positions, while this time only 2,570 positions are available. This means that there are approximately 68% fewer vacancies this time than in the previous recruitment, making competition more difficult. Previously, in 2019, after the COVID-19 pandemic, recruitment for over 14,000 positions was conducted, further explaining this decline.
Age Limit Change: 3-Year Relaxation Will Not Be Available This Time
Another important aspect of recruitment is the change in the age limit. Last time, due to the delay caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the maximum age limit was relaxed by 3 years, bringing it to 36 years. However, for RRB JE Recruitment 2025, the maximum age limit has been reinstated to 33 years. Candidates from reserved categories will be eligible for relaxation as per the following rules:
SC/ST Category: 5-Year Relaxation
OBC Category: 3-Year Relaxation
The minimum age limit for all categories is 18 years.
Educational Qualifications
To apply, candidates must possess a degree or diploma from a recognized institution in a relevant engineering discipline, such as civil, mechanical, electrical, electronics, or telecommunications. Certain specialized positions, such as JE (IT) and Chemical and Metallurgical Assistant, will require specific educational qualifications. For example, for Junior Engineer (IT) positions, holders of a BCA, PGDCA, or DOEACC ‘B’ Level three-year diploma are also eligible to apply.
Selection Process and Exam Pattern
The selection process will consist of a two-stage Computer-Based Test (CBT), followed by document verification and a medical examination.
First Stage (CBT 1): This exam will consist of 100 questions, with a 90-minute time limit.
Second Stage (CBT 2): This exam will consist of 150 questions, with a 120-minute time limit.
There is negative marking for wrong answers in both exams, with one-third (1/3) of the marks assigned to a question being deducted for each wrong answer.
Application Fee
General and OBC Category: The application fee is ₹500. ₹400 will be refunded upon appearing for the exam, meaning the actual fee will be ₹100.
SC/ST, Women, Ex-Servicemen, EWS, and PwBD candidates: The application fee for these candidates is ₹250. This full amount will be refunded upon appearing for the exam.
