The romantic action thriller Saiyaara, directed by Mohit Suri and featuring debutantes Ahan and Anit, opened well at the box office. The film won over the hearts effortlessly and earned good sums at its opening weekend. But the fourth day saw a sudden change in the ride of the film, Monday collections saw a massive dip.
Weekend Success for Saiyaara
Released with great buzz, Saiyaara opened in the theaters with a huge opening. The movie made ₹21.5 crore when it opened on Friday. It increased by ₹26 crore on the second day (Saturday) and reached its highest of ₹35.75 crore on the third day (Sunday). The film made a healthy ₹83.25 crore over its first weekend of release.
The crowd was impressed with the new Ahan and Anit jodi, the engaging storyline, and the direction by Mohit Suri. The critiques were pouring in on the social media, and crowd members were enjoying to watch two newcomers deliver a performance like international stars. The film even broke records for the highest weekend collection by a debut actor duo.
Monday Test – A Big Setback
But like every other Bollywood film, Saiyaara too had to face the tough Monday test. The movie only made ₹22.50 crore on Day 4 (Monday), based on preliminary estimates from Sacnilk.com. Compared to Sunday’s ₹35.75 crore, this is a steep fall in earnings, almost a 37% drop.
Box office analysts were not surprised to see the fall, as weekdays tend to have poor results. The steep fall did, however, raise eyebrows about whether the film has a long-term future.
Total Collection So Far
Despite the decline, Saiyaara has reached a massive milestone that has crossed ₹100 crore in four days. Overall box office collection is now around ₹105.75 crore. Saiyaara is currently among the top-earning films featuring debut actors.
Here’s a brief rundown:
Day 1: ₹21.5 crore on Friday,
Day 2: ₹26 crore on Saturday Sunday,
Day 3: ₹35.75 crore Monday,
Day 4: ₹22.50 crore.
Four-day total: ₹105.75 crore.
What’s Next for Saiyaara?
The fall in collections could perhaps be a cause for concern for the producers, but even with that, the film has a good opportunity to increase if it maintains stability in the following week. Word of mouth remains good, and people are still curious about the two main actors. The film can very easily cross ₹150 crore in the second weekend if it keeps raking in more than ₹15 crore daily for a couple more days.
At short notice, while Saiyaara registered a shock show at the box office on Monday, it is too early to call it a flop. It shall be known in the coming days if this blockbuster will indeed be a blockbuster.
