Romance in Bollywood: Bollywood superstars Salman Khan and Aamir Khan recently appeared together on Twinkle Khanna and Kajol’s show, Too Much. They shared their personal and professional experiences and also offered their opinions on a perennially debated topic: stars romancing actresses many years younger or older than them.
Aamir Khan said, “When a hero romances an actress younger than him, it’s called cinema magic. However, if an older heroine romances a young male actor, it’s considered bold. For me, the selection of actors depends on the needs of the script. If the story requires an age difference, the casting is done accordingly.”
Twinkle Khanna commented that age difference always matters. “It’s not like you’re playing the hero’s mother until you’re 40 or 50. So, there’s bound to be a difference,” she said.
Salman Khan also offered his opinion on the subject, saying, “I think it completely depends on the story. If the heroine is older and romances a younger actor, I don’t think there should be any problem.”
Aamir further explained, “If Sridevi had continued working, she could have played the lead role even today. Madhuri Dixit could have done the same in her time. But to maintain the freshness of the film, producers and directors choose new and lesser-known actresses. This keeps the film fresh and appealing to the audience.”
The two superstars together clarified that the age difference depends only on the demands of the story and script, not on any personal stereotypes. This conversation between Salman and Aamir offers a new perspective on the ongoing debate between big stars and young actors in Bollywood regarding age and romance in films.
