TikTok India Update: On Friday, news suddenly started spreading on social media that TikTok’s website is opening again in India. Many users claimed that they are able to access TikTok’s webpage, and with this, the speculation of the return of this short video app intensified. But the reality is a little different from this. Actually, some pages are opening in India, but the app is still not available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
What is visible when TikTok is opened in India?
When NBT Tech opened the web version of TikTok, it was possible to reach the ‘About’ page. https://www.tiktok.com/about
The link shows basic information related to the company and some tabs like Newsroom, Career, and Contact. But out of these, only the Contact tab opens completely, which takes you directly to the Help Center. This clearly means that only the information page of TikTok is visible, not its real service.
Clear message on the login page
The biggest question was whether Indian users can log in to TikTok. On testing, the login page opens and the process also starts, but ultimately, the login is not completed. Here, a message is clearly written –
“On June 29, 2020, the Government of India decided to block 59 apps, including TikTok. We are following the instructions of the government and are cooperating for further action on this issue.”
It is clear from this that at present, Indian users can neither create a new account nor watch videos from the old account.
What are the trending videos visible?
Many users also wanted to know whether the trending video section of TikTok can be seen. When an attempt was made to open the “For You” page through Google search, the link took to https://www.tiktok.com/notfound
. No video was shown here, and the same message flashed, which was on the login page – that TikTok has been blocked in India since 2020.
Status of TikTok Live and App Download
Many search results related to TikTok Live and App Download are visible on Google, but after clicking on them, it is clearly written that these services are not available in India at the moment. That is, only the about page of the company is opening; all other features are still blocked.
Question of TikTok’s return
This whole matter further strengthens the question of whether TikTok will return to India. It is worth noting that after the Galwan Valley conflict, the Indian government banned many Chinese apps, including TikTok. Since then, this app has been completely closed in the country. TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, tried to negotiate with the Indian government, but so far, it has not yielded any results.
The biggest benefit of this ban was Meta’s Instagram. Millions of Indian users of TikTok shifted to Instagram Reels, and today, this platform has become very popular for short videos.
Return depends on the government
At present, none of TikTok’s services is working in India. The company’s information page being visible is merely a technical access, not a sign of return. Whether TikTok will return or not depends entirely on the decision of the Indian government. No official statement has been issued in this regard yet.
