The Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh is once again giving good news to its officials. Nearly 15 lakh state employees are expected to get a 4% hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) increment, providing a significant boost to their monthly salary. The salary increment not only will raise the monthly salary but will be arrears with it too, providing additional relief to thousands of households.
Normal DA Revision in UP
The UP government updates the Dearness Allowance of its employees every six months. The objective is to maintain a pace with increasing costs and help employees deal with inflation. The basic salary is increased by the increased DA following each revision. Now, according to fresh news reports, one more hike in DA is in the pipeline and is likely to benefit lakhs of government employees.
Final DA Hike Under 7th Pay Commission
This revision is expected to be the last Dearness Allowance hike as per the 7th Pay Commission. The hike is sure to create a significant change in the salaries of employees. The hike is computed using the recent All India Consumer Price Index (AICPI) rates, which measure price variations all over the nation and are adopted while calculating DA.
4% DA Hike Likely from July
State government employees are currently getting 55% DA. Due to the hike now, it will go even up to 59%. The hike of 4% will be applicable from July 1, 2025. The central government traditionally announces the DA hike in the pre-Diwali season, but the sources indicate that Yogi government will be no exception.
Employees to Get Arrears with DA
The silver lining: The pay hike will be arrears-i.e., workers will receive the differential amount for July until the announcement was made. Once the Centre goes public on DA hike, which should be done in September or October, UP will also be prompt in making a similar declaration to its workers.
How Much Salary Will Increase?
Assuming the 4% DA hike is sanctioned, this is what workers might benefit:
An employee will get a raise of ₹720 every month in addition to their basic salary of ₹18,000. His DA will increase from ₹9,900 to ₹10,620.
That is an annual increment of ₹8,640.
If the basic pay is ₹50,000, the DA will be hiked by ₹2,000 every month.
That is equivalent to ₹24,000 per annum.
