The monsoon has picked up in the full fury in Uttar Pradesh. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a new alert for July 22, predicting heavy rain and lightning across the state. Western UP will suffer the most with numerous areas under red warning for heavy to extremely heavy rain, including Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Bijnor, Moradabad, and Shamli.
Lowlying areas are flooding as a result of the constant rain, which also affects traffic, thus inhabitants are advised to stay inside.
Statewide Thunderstorm and Lightning Warning
UP has to exercise caution about more than just rain. Thunderstorms with lightning are forecast across most of the state, so this weather warning becomes even more crucial. The IMD has issued warnings for lightning across more than 45 districts, rural as well as urban.
Banda, Prayagraj, Chitrakoot, Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Gorakhpur, Basti, Gonda, Bahraich, Balrampur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Bareilly, Shahjahanpur, Etawah, Agra, Firozabad, Mathura, Ghaziabad, Aligarh, along with many other districts expected to be influenced.
Advised construction workers and agricultural farmers, to delay all outdoor activities until the weather improves. Should the weather turn bad, schools and universities might also close temporarily. Officials further ask locals to exercise caution during this severe storm and remain inside during consistent lightning, which is in the late afternoon and nighttime.
Why This Alert Matters
Uttar Pradesh witnessed erratic weather conditions this monsoon ranging from dry spells to unseasonal showers. This is the most severe of warnings issued so far in the season. The danger to life and property is considerable with a combination of heavy rain and lightning.
The IMD’s advanced satellite monitoring and radar equipment have been providing early warnings, but the public needs to act quickly. Tapping into local TV channels, weather apps, or official updates from the IMD is the most effective means of staying ahead of the storm.
July 22 will most likely face the fury of intensive monsoon activity in UP. More than 45 districts have been placed on the high alert, and people have been asked to exercise caution and adhere to safety protocols.
