Uttarakhand Teacher Recruitment 2025: After a long wait, the district-level recruitment process for basic teachers has finally begun in Uttarakhand. The state government has issued strict instructions to all districts to begin the application process before November 9th. Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat has clearly stated that this time the recruitment process will be conducted in a completely transparent and timely manner so that qualified candidates can get the opportunity as soon as possible.
Districts like Pauri, Uttarkashi, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh have already begun the application process. Currently, approximately 2,100 Assistant Teacher positions are vacant in the state’s primary schools, of which district-wise recruitment is underway for 1,649 positions. However, these positions have been put on hold due to a pending High Court case involving 451 positions. The recruitment process for all other positions is progressing rapidly.
Recruitment under the RTE and National Education Policy
The Education Minister has directed all District Magistrates to ensure that the recruitment process fully complies with the RTE (Right to Education) and National Education Policy (NEP). Under this, the student-teacher ratio will be the primary consideration. Districts have been ordered to determine the vacancies for posts based on the current student strength in schools.
Director of Basic Education Ajay Nautiyal stated that all districts have been ordered to begin the recruitment process before November 9th, and most districts have already initiated action in this regard.

Eligibility and Pay Scale for Applicants
The state government has set clear eligibility criteria for recruitment. The minimum age of candidates is 21 years, and the maximum age is 42 years. Age will be calculated from July 1, 2025. Relaxation in the upper age limit will also be provided to reserved categories as per government regulations.
Graduation and D.El.Ed. have been made mandatory educational qualifications. Candidates must also have passed the UTET exam.
The pay scale is set from ₹35,400 to ₹1,12,400, which is in accordance with the Seventh Pay Commission.
Department’s Strictness on D.El.Ed. Trainees
A major controversy has also emerged during the recruitment process. Following the recent uproar at the Basic Education Directorate, D.El.Ed. trainees are facing the threat of action. On the orders of the Director General of Education, the department has initiated an investigation into the entire matter and has sought details of the trainees from all district diets.
During Thursday’s protest, some trainees attempted to influence the recruitment process, which the department has taken seriously. If the investigation reveals any trainee involvement, strict action will be taken against them. This constitutes a violation of regulations and could impact their future teaching careers.

A major step towards addressing the teacher shortage in the state
This recruitment drive is considered a significant step towards addressing the teacher shortage in Uttarakhand’s government primary schools. The Education Department believes that this will not only improve the quality of teaching but also strengthen the education system in rural areas.
The government aims to complete this process with complete transparency by December so that all vacant positions are filled before the new session.
