A detailed weather alert has been released by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) showing widespread heavy to very heavy rain over most of India in the next seven days. The monsoon is gathering strength over the subcontinent, bringing relief along with the possibility of disturbance.
Heavy Showers In North India
Few parts of north India such as Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Jammu & Kashmir, and eastern Rajasthan and western Rajasthan are likely to experience intermittent heavy rain from July 5–11. Detailed warnings are below:
Uttarakhand: Extremely heavy rain on July 5–7
Himachal Pradesh: Set to experience heavy rainfall over three consecutive days- July 6, 7 and 8
Punjab & Haryana: Heavy rain on July 6–7
Eastern Rajasthan: Intense heavy rainfall expected on July 5, 9, and 10
East and Central India to Prepare for Heavy Monsoon Activity
Normal rain is forecast by the IMD in central and eastern India from July 5 to July 11.
While all this is happening, very heavy showers will strike eastern Madhya Pradesh on July 5.
Heavy rain is expected to batter Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, and Gangetic West Bengal from July 5–8.
Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are likely to see heavy rainfall on July 5, with more downpours expected between July 8 and 10.
Over in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, residents should prepare for very heavy rain on July 6.
Monsoon Peaks in Western Regions
Western regions of India such as Konkan, Goa, Saurashtra, Kutch, and Maharashtra and Marathwada region ghats would get heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coming week:
Maharashtra Ghats: Excessive rain on July 6–7
Saurashtra and Kutch can expect rain between July 5 and 7, with scattered rain showers in between.
Marathwada: Heavy rain on July 6–7
Northeast India Alert: Thunderstorms and Lightning Expected
The northeast states are also on weather alert, with Meghalaya expecting very heavy rain on July 5. Light to moderate showers along with thunderstorms and lightning are forecasted in most of the region during the week.

The public is requested by the IMD to stay informed on official news, and stay alert. Governments and local authorities are prepared to handle probable waterlogging, landslides, and transport disruption.
