Indian Railways has some new travel incentives for senior citizens, lower berths, battery cars and many others.

 

A Paradigm Shift for Comfortable Train Journeys in India

In a landmark decision that relieves the elderly train passengers all across India. Indian Railways has now introduced measures to facilitate, ensure safety and even dignify train travel for senior citizens. This set of improvements comes under the government’s continuing commitment toward making travel inclusive whereby comfort and convenience are assured to any senior citizen in the country’s busiest mode of transport.

Lower Berth Reservation Finally Upon Us

Confirming this in Rajya Sabha, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the Railways has provided a priority arrangement for senior citizens and women above 45 years in terms of lower berths. While this latest addition in policy is mostly related to the availability of ticketing at the time of booking. It is nevertheless a tremendous help to the elderly who typically find access to upper berths quite difficult. This is a considerate change by Railways towards its aged population.

Huge Reach: More than 2300 Crore Passengers Have Now Benefitted

According to estimates Indian Railways would carry more than 2358 crore passengers between the financial years 2020-21 and 2024-25. This demographic includes millions of senior citizens who have benefited from simplified booking and smooth travel. This sheds light on the fact that the Railways have played an important role not just as a transport system but also as a lifeline for common men especially for the elderly.

Battery Vehicles to Ease Mobility at Stations

Further enhancing accessibility efforts Indian Railways has introduced battery driven vehicles (BOVs) at major stations sporadically across India. These ecological vehicles will go a long way in helping senior citizens, differentially abled persons, pregnant women and people recuperating from ailments. The objective is simple to relieve the loading and unloading stress. 

Counters Dedicated to Ease Booking Process

Senior citizens’ counters are being made these days at many passenger reservation system (PRS) centers according to location and infrastructure. The counters reduce waiting time for tickets and help in expediting the booking process thus facilitating the elderly in planning their journey without any delay or discomfort.
