If you’re planning anything bank-related this June, better mark your calendar. Banks across India will stay closed on 12 different days this month. Some closures are due to festivals, while others are the usual weekends. Here’s a quick walk through what’s happening and where.

Why Banks Will Be Closed in June

June isn’t just about rising temperatures, it’s also packed with festivals. We’ve got Eid al-Adha, Kabir Jayanti, Rath Yatra, and even Remna Ni (it’s celebrated in Mizoram). These cultural moments mean bank employees get their well-deserved days off. And let’s not forget the regular Sundays and Saturdays, they add up too.

Festival-Related Bank Holidays

Banks in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi will close for Bakrid on June 6. The next day, June 7, it’s a wider spread — cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Jaipur,Chennai,Hyderabad, Panaji, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong and about two dozen others will observe the holiday. But places like Ahmedabad, Gangtok, Itanagar, Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi will have their banks open that day. Funny how it varies. The bank employees will be on duty.

Then comes June 11, marking Kabir Jayanti in Shimla and Saga Dawa in Gangtok. Later, on June 27, it’s Rath Yatra in Bhubaneswar and Kang festival in Imphal. Lastly, Remna Ni, which falls on June 30, will keep banks shut down in Aizawl.

Weekly Closures: Sundays and Saturdays

Now, even if there weren’t any festivals, you’d still have 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th June off — those are all Sundays. Add June 14 and June 28, which are the second and fourth Saturdays, and there go two more working days. That’s your 12 days right there.

Different cities, different rules. So always check your local holiday list before making plans.

Upcoming Bank Holidays in July and August

Looking ahead, July’s got another 7 holidays, not counting weekends. And in August, be ready for big ones like Raksha Bandhan, Independence Day, and Ganesh Chaturthi. Basically, if you’re trying to get something done at the bank, plan ahead or you might just be standing outside a closed gate again.
