Planning a bank visit tomorrow? Hold that thought. On Friday, June 6, 2025, several states across India will see all government and private banks shut due to Eid-ul-Azha, also known as Bakrid. If you’ve got pending work, it’s best to take note and plan around these closures.
Why Banks Will Stay Closed on June 6?
Observed on June 6 this year is EidulAzha, the most holy Islamic festival. Remembered in respect for Hazrat Ibrahim’s offer of his son to Allah as a sacrifice, it is a day of supplication, sacrifice, and blind faith. Qurbani, or animal slaughter, represents submission and devotion as well as letting go what one treasures most dearly.
Because of this, banks will remain closed in most states of the country, including Kerala, where big banks such as SBI, PNB, and HDFC will remain shut for a full day. Additional state-wise closures are also possible according to local holiday schedules. So, in any such state where you could happen to be, you cannot use branch facilities.
