Khidarpur Market Fire: 1300 Shops Gone

Kolkata Market Fire Breakout: Monday morning brought despair for the people living in Khidarpur, Kolkata. A massive fire broke out in Khidarpur market on Monday morning due to which the shops were reduced to ashes very quickly.

We have come to know from sources that the fire broke out late at night after 1 am, and being a crowded area, the fire spread quickly. Due to the crowded streets and shops, the fire soon made the oil depots its companion and took a monstrous form, due to which around 1300 shops were reduced to ashes quickly. Due to the presence of inflammable material in the oil shops, the fire increased its intensity and within minutes it reduced everything that came in its path to ashes.

Local people and residents kept watching the hopes of their capital burning and getting destroyed before their eyes. 20 fire vehicles were used to extinguish this fire, but the fire was so fierce that even the fire officials had to work hard to control it. The fire was not coming under control quickly, and even after dawn, pocket fires were still burning in many areas, which made extinguishing them difficult.

There is no clear news yet about the fire breaking out suddenly and how and why it started, but the damage can be clearly seen in how many people’s properties were burned in the fire. Shopkeepers say that the fire brigade did not arrive on time, due to which local people suffered a lot. They say that they kept calling the fire brigade again and again, and the fire brigade arrived half an hour late. People say that even after the fire brigade arrived, they did not have sufficient water to extinguish the fire.

This fire has caused a lot of damage to people of all classes there. Traders have suffered a huge blow. Many traders used to earn money from daily stalls, and now everything has been burnt. A businessman said, “Everything of mine is burnt, shops, money, property; now I don’t know how I will be able to start everything again.”
