Mahindra Thar 3-Door Lineup Revamped : 8 Variants Discontinued, New Changes Detailed

Mahindra & Mahindra has made a major change in the 3-door model of its popular SUV Thar. The company has discontinued many variants of Thar. The special thing is that now the top-spec convertible variants of Thar and AX 4WD and LX open differential versions will no longer be available in the market.
In India, the company is currently selling Thar Rocks 5-door version along with Thar 3-door. After the launch of Thar Rocks, customers have inclined towards the 5-door version, as it offers more practicality. Perhaps for this reason Mahindra has decided to reduce the variants of the 3-door Thar, so that production can also be handled better.
Earlier there was a total option of 19 variants in Thar, but now only 11 variants are left. In this change, 2 variants with petrol engine and 6 variants with diesel engine have been discontinued. It is also worth noting that only the 4WD variants have been affected, while there is no change in the RWD models.
Now only the AX(O) 1.5-litre diesel RWD hard top version is available as the entry level variant in the Thar lineup. All other initial variants have been removed.
Talking about the price, despite the reduction in variants, Mahindra has not made any changes in the price list of Thar. The SUV still starts at Rs 11.50 lakh and goes up to Rs 17.60 lakh (ex-showroom). Currently, the most expensive model of Thar is the 2.2-litre diesel LX AT Earth Edition 4WD.
New facelift version also ready to come
According to reports, Mahindra is also preparing a facelift version of the Thar 3-door, codenamed W515. It is believed that the new model will be launched in 2026.
The updated Thar will have some design changes, which will be largely inspired by the Thar Rocks. Along with this, new features will also be added to the SUV, such as a larger infotainment system (with Adrenox connected car technology), fully digital instrument cluster, new steering wheel and single-pane sunroof option in the hard top variant.
There will be no major change in the engine option. The facelifted Thar is expected to get the same 1.5L turbo diesel, 2.2L mHawk diesel and 2.0L mStallion petrol engines. However, the company can make slight improvements in the suspension and steering setup to improve the ride quality and comfort of the vehicle.
