Deepika Padukone Walks Out of Spirit After Setting Her Terms

Bollywood superstar Deepika Padukone, who recently embraced motherhood, was in talks to star opposite Prabhas in Spirit, directed by Animal fame Sandeep Reddy Vanga. But things didn’t go as planned. Deepika made a few clear demands only 8 hours of shooting per day, ₹20 crore as fees, a share in the film’s profits, and she didn’t want to deliver dialogues in Telugu. These conditions didn’t sit well with the makers, and she was eventually dropped from the project. In her place, rising star Triptii Dimri was brought on board.

Mani Ratnam Comes Forward, Defends Deepika’s Professional Choices

As the news made waves, legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam came out in Deepika’s support. “These Are Not Demands, But A Right,” Says Mani Ratnam

Ratnam stressed that no one should be surprised by what Deepika asked for. He pointed out that actors, like any professionals, deserve structure, fair pay, and respect. For a woman who just became a mother, asking for an 8-hour workday isn’t luxury it’s balance. He urged other filmmakers to respect such choices and create healthy work environments.

Earlier, actor Ajay Devgn also reacted to the situation. He said there’s nothing wrong with actors wanting limited working hours. “Most professionals today don’t work beyond 8 to 9 hours a day. Why should it be different for actors, especially for someone who’s also a mother now?” he asked.

Triptii Dimri Joins the Cast, But Deepika’s Voice Echoes

In a male driven industry, she reminded everyone that it’s okay for women to speak up. And when legends like Mani Ratnam back you, you know the tide is finally turning.
