Maruti Suzuki’s first electric SUV – e Vitara : It has been the talk of the town for the past few months. Many were expecting it to be launched by April as display units have reached some dealerships. But now the company has made it clear that its sale in India will start only after some more time.
The company has recently informed that the e Vitara will now be launched in India before September 2025. This means that for the next few months, customers will only be able to see this electric SUV at the dealerships, but will not be able to buy it.
What is the reason for the delay?
It is not clear yet whether the company has delayed the launch or it was already planned that the vehicle would be introduced in the second half of the year. But the presence of display units in showrooms definitely suggests that the launch was earlier going to happen in April itself. It is possible that due to some production or logistical reason, the company had to change the plan.
It will be launched abroad before India
Maruti Suzuki Chairman R.C. Bhargava himself has confirmed that the company will start production of e Vitara from May or June. But most of the units of the first batch will not be sent to India, but to more than 100 international markets. He also said that by the end of 2025, about 70,000 units will be ready and a large part of them will be exported.
This means that Indian customers who are eagerly waiting for this car will have to wait for some more time because domestic sales are still a priority for the company.
e Vitara will be available in two variants – with range and battery
The company will launch e Vitara in two variants – one standard range and the other long range.
The standard version will get a 49 kWh LFP battery which is taken from BYD company. This battery will power the motor with 105.8 kW power and 192.5 Nm torque.
On the other hand, the long range version will have a bigger 61 kWh battery and a 128 kW motor, which will give almost the same torque (192.5 Nm). The range of the long range version is said to be more than 500 km, which makes it an excellent option for long journeys.
Talking about features, this SUV will be completely premium
Maruti Suzuki has kept this SUV quite premium in terms of features as well. Some of the special features found in it are:
- Sharply designed LED projector headlamps
- 18 inch alloy wheels
- Fixed glass sunroof which will make the look of the car great
- 10.25 inch full digital instrument cluster
- 10.1 inch touchscreen infotainment system
- Option to adjust the driver seat in 10 different positions electrically
- Ventilated seats for both driver and front passenger
- No compromise in terms of safety
The company has described e Vitara as one of its safest vehicles. It will be given Level 2 ADAS i.e. Advanced Driver Assistance System, which makes the car even smarter and safer. Apart from this, safety features like seven airbags, including driver knee airbag, front and rear disc brakes, electronic parking brake will also be included.
Result – A little wait, but you will get a powerful electric experience
For those who are waiting for this first electric SUV from Maruti, it may be a little disappointing that they will have to wait for a few more months. But the good thing is that when this vehicle is launched in India, it will not be less than any competing SUV in terms of features, range and safety.
