MG Windsor EV, an electric car that is becoming increasingly popular in India, is now being made even better. The company is preparing to launch it with a new battery option and advanced safety features. If you are thinking of getting a long range EV, then this update can be useful news for you.
Now you will get a bigger battery pack – range will increase
At present, MG Windsor EV gets a 38 kWh battery, which gives an ARAI certified range of about 332 km. But now the company is going to give the option of a bigger battery of 50.6 kWh in it. This can increase the range of the car to about 400 km, making long distance travel easier than before.
In Indonesia, the variant of this car ‘Wuling Cloud EV’ already comes with this bigger battery, which has a CLTC range of 460 km. There are different testing standards in India, so its range may be slightly less here but it will be better than rivals like Nexon EV.
Power will remain the same, but charging will have to be reduced
The new battery will only increase the range, but there will be no change in the power and torque of the motor. That is, the power of 136 hp and the torque of 200 Nm will remain the same as before. People who commute daily in the city will no longer need frequent charging.
ADAS Safety Features – Smarter and Safer
According to the news, ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) can also be added to the updated Windsor EV. If this happens, then it can surpass Tata Nexon EV in terms of safety. Under ADAS, the car can include features like auto emergency braking, lane keeping assist, traffic sign recognition ability, blind spot alert, adaptive cruise control and 360 degree camera.
Nexon EV does not have ADAS, but some safety features like 360° camera and blind spot view are definitely available. Nexon has received a 5-star safety rating in BNCAP, while the crash test report of Windsor is yet to come.
However, Windsor already has essential features like 6 airbags, electronic stability control, hill hold, parking sensor and tire pressure monitoring.
Price and launch timing
The current price of Windsor EV is between Rs 14 lakh and Rs 16 lakh. The variant with the new battery may be priced slightly higher, but it may still be cheaper than Nexon EV.
This electric car of MG has so far set a record of selling 20,000 units in India in 6 months. Its demand may increase further after the arrival of the new version. There has been no official announcement regarding the launch date yet, but it may be revealed soon.
