Monsoon Moves Past Mumbai, Gathers Pace Toward Northern India

The Southwest Monsoon is slowly moving northwards. Until June 6, its northern boundary currently passes over Mumbai, Ahilyanagar, Adilabad, Bhawanipatna, Puri, and Balurghat and is moving step by step towards the regions of northern India. This advance brings a mix of relief and chaos—some regions get drenched, while others brace for rising heat.

Western Disturbance and Cyclonic Circulation Shake Up Weather

A powerful Western Disturbance, lodged at around 5.8 km above sea level, is influencing weather across northwestern India. The weather regime is being compelled by an upper-level cyclonic circulation over northwest Rajasthan and neighboring central Pakistan. Together, they’re stirring up clouds, winds, and temperature shifts in several northern states.

Delhi: Cloudy Skies and a Dash of Thunder

Delhiites should be ready for changing skies. Thunder and lightning are possible on this partly cloudy day, according to the IMD. The high temperature is likely to range between 38°C and 40°C hot, but to be expected for the end of May. No rain is on the horizon, however, but thunderheads have a chance of moving in by evening.

Heavy Rain Alert for Northeast States

The northeast continues to stay under thick clouds. to intermittent, exceptionally heavy rain, Assam and Meghalaya are under a red alert. Light to moderate rain is likely in Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, and Mizoram as well.Waterlogging in the low grounds may occur because of this rain spell, so be cautious.

East and Central India: Storms Brewing

From Madhya Pradesh to Bihar, several states in East and Central India are gearing up for a stormy day. There will likely be lightning, scattered rain, and gusty winds of up to 50 kmph. Bihar, in particular, might get hit with isolated heavy showers. The early steps of the monsoon will also be felt in Odisha, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh.

Heatwave to Scorch Rajasthan from June 8

While rain dances across some regions, Rajasthan is turning into a furnace. The IMD has declared a heatwave warning for West Rajasthan from June 8 to June 11. Temperatures in Northwest and Central India are already on the rise—expect a 4–6°C jump in the coming days.

Southern States: Light Showers for Kerala and Karnataka

Kerala, Mahe, and Coastal Karnataka will have light to moderate showers today. Interior Karnataka and parts of Andhra Pradesh will see isolated thunderstorms with lightning and windy conditions. Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will be dry and hot and humid, and it will be a bad day for most.

Himalayan States: Rain, Winds, and Thunder Expected

There will be sporadic light rain showers in parts of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir. Moderate rain with wind storms and thunder will occur at Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

What to Expect Across India

Temperature trends suggest that most of Northwest and Central India will heat up rapidly. The East may remain stable for another day before warming begins. Meanwhile, the Southern and Northeastern states will continue to see intermittent rain and cloudy skies.
