Mumbai Monsoon Alert: Cloudy Skies & Heavy Rain on June 23

1. IMD Yellow Alert in Effect

The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert in Mumbai as well as in surrounding areas like Thane and Palghar. This alert will remain in place from June 23 to June 26. The IMD says there is a strong chance of heavy rain during this period. People living in low areas may face waterlogging or flooding, so they should take precautions and avoid unnecessary travel.

2. Today’s Rain and Climate Snapshot

Mumbai today is likely to remain mostly cloudy and will see light or heavy rain at different times. In the afternoon the wind might pick up and bring a cooler feel. The maximum temperature may touch 32 degrees Celsius while the minimum is around 28 degrees. Humidity will stay high and make the weather feel warmer and stickier.

3. June Rain Milestone: 80% of Monthly Average

As of now the Santacruz weather station has already recorded 425 millimeters of rain which is about 79 percent of the monthly average. In Colaba the number is even higher at 478 millimeters which is 88 percent of the total expected rain in June. So Mumbai has received most of its expected June rain in just three weeks.

4. High Tide Risk and Travel Advisory

The IMD has also warned about high tide that may rise as much as 4.34 meters on Monday morning. This may affect areas near the coast so people are advised to stay away from seawalls and beaches. Trains or flights might get delayed and road traffic could be slower than usual due to water buildup.

5. Week Long Forecast: Rain Streak Continues

June 24: Heavy rain with temperature between 30 and 32 degrees

June 25 and 26: Rain expected to continue

June 27 and 28: Light to moderate rain likely

June 29 and 30: Thunderstorms may return

The week ahead looks rainy and damp so daily life may face small or big interruptions.

If you are commuting then be ready for traffic and puddles on roads. If you are traveling by air or rail then check updates before leaving. If you are at home or work then keep electric items safe and make sure water does not block drain pipes.

7. Safety Tips to Stay Monsoon Ready

Carry an umbrella or raincoat when stepping out. Keep phones or laptops in plastic covers. Stay away from electric poles or open wires when it is raining. Avoid standing near big trees or weak walls. Step out only when it is really needed during heavy rain.
