Nepal Earthquake Triggers Panic Across Northern India

Rush outdoors in panic when the ground shakes at 7:52 PM
At exactly 7:52 PM Indian Standard Time, a mild but perceptible shock struck Nepal on 4 April 2025. Almost immediately, parts of northern India registered tremors. Measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale, the earthquake hit just 20 kilometers underground and occurred in just a few seconds. It was enough to cause some panic across many cities.
There was shaking from Delhi-NCR to Gorakhpur.
Almost everyone who has felt the tremors reports that ground shaking has reached Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Uttarakhand. Many ran outside from homes and high rise buildings.
Patna and Gorakhpur also saw social media activity where people confirmed the vibrations. Although the intensity is moderate. It indeed rang bells in people’s minds about the seismic sensitivity of the area.
Increased Seismic Activity Alarm South Asia
This earthquake comes soon after a highly damaging earthquake that took place in Southeast Asia. Just days earlier, Myanmar and Thailand were shaken by a 7.7 magnitude earthquake, which has left over 2,700 people dead and thousands more injured or missing.

Telecommunications are no longer functional in several places, and aid is withheld from a few communities. According to the scientists, they believe that these tremors are indeed the continuation of a much larger tectonic pattern forming underneath the land surface of South Asia.
For what reason are there so many earthquakes in Nepal
Nepal lies on the highly active boundary of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. Therefore, the fault line, which has already caused the Himalayan region to become extremely earthquake prone does so even more. Every year this pressure stored in huge quantities gets released and the result of this is seismic activity in the form of some mild ones and many disastrous occurrences.
Preparedness for Safety
Although not damaging nor almost injurious this specific quake has prompted scientists to urge people across the region to remain alert. Tracking mobile apps like BhooKamp and the online updates by the National Center for Seismology offer real time tracking of seismic movements.
No natural calamity is forecasted with precision, but awareness and quick response may save lives. A time will come when tectonic tensions will intensify in the region and hence remaining updated and alert at this point would be a wise move.
