New Tesla Model Y (Juniper) Spotted Testing in India – Launch Expected by Late 2025

For the first time in India, Tesla’s new Model Y (codename: Juniper) has been seen during testing. This is considered to be the most important step in the indications of the company’s arrival in India. American electric car manufacturer Tesla is now preparing to enter India through its best-selling car Model Y.

Why did Model Y become the first choice?

The scope of Model Y is quite large. Tesla’s other vehicles like Model S, Model X and Cybertruck are not worth bringing to India because they only come in left-hand drive and their price is also so high that their demand in India will be very limited. At the same time, a vehicle with a large and different design like Cybertruck will prove to be of very low demand for India. There is also a problem in bringing Model 3 because its right-hand drive version is made only in China, and importing from China may affect relations with the Indian government.

Big change in design

The new Model Y now looks more stylish and premium than ever. Its split headlights and sporty bumper in front give it a bold look. A new LED light has now been provided at the rear which extends across the width of the car, making its rear profile look quite attractive. Apart from this, the name of Tesla is given in block letters at the back which is reflected in the new tail-lamp strip.

Big update in the interior too

Wooden trim has now been removed inside the new Model Y and ambient lighting has been given in its place. The steering wheel has also now come in a more modern design. The car now has ventilated front seats and the rear seats also come with power-folding and reclining, which takes comfort to the next level.

An 8-inch screen has also been provided at the rear which provides facilities like playing music, watching videos and playing games. This screen can now also control the front passenger seat. The front display has also been made slightly larger now, but now the gear shift stick has been removed, and its controls have now been shifted to the screen.

Power and Performance

Tesla will import this vehicle to India from Germany, where it comes in three variants –

1. Standard Range RWD (0-100 km/h: 5.9 seconds, Range: 500 km)

2. Long Range RWD (0-100 km/h: 5.6 seconds, Range: 622 km)

3. Long Range AWD (0-100 km/h: 4.8 seconds, Range: 568 km)

The top speed of all three variants is 201 km/h.

When will it be launched in India?

The new Tesla Model Y can be launched in India by September or October 2025. Initially it will be made available in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru.

Tesla’s move in India is expected to create a big stir in the EV segment.
