Aadhaar verification is mandatory for Tatkal ticket bookings by Indian Railways. Tatkal tickets can be booked only by those who have linked their Aadhaar with an IRCTC account. Here are the complete details on the new rule and how the ticket booking procedure will be updated
No Aadhaar, No Tatkal Train Ticket
Indian Railways has brought a big change in Tatkal ticket booking procedure which is better for people and also to stop fraudulent activities. Towards the end of this month, the Railway Ministry said e-Aadhaar verification for Tatkal ticket booking will be made compulsory. This is done to prevent agents, bots misuse, and fake bookings so that passengers can get tickets easily.
Important Points About the New Rule
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the Tatkal tickets released a day before departure are usually snapped up within seconds by agents and bots which make things difficult for common takers. The solution is to make e-Aadhaar verification mandatory. If users link their IRCTC accounts with Aadhaar, they will be given Priority in the first 10 minutes for booking Tatkal tickets. Under this phase, no ticket can be booked by authorized agents.
Aadhaar Required for Both Online and Offline Tickets
Empty IRCTC accounts that have not linked with the Aadhaar of users will have to wait for an additional three days until they book Tatkal, Premium Tatkal, or Opening ARP tickets as well post registration. Railway officials further said that in the near future, Tatkal counter bookings will also have to mandatorily go through the Aadhaar verification system to make it uniform for online and offline bookings.
Preventing Fraud
Indian Railways has significantly upgraded the Tatkal booking process with advanced technical measures. The ministry has deployed an anti-bot system, paired with a high-performing Content Delivery Network (CDN), to enhance efficiency. Previously, over 50% of login attempts for Tatkal bookings were made by bots, but this figure has drastically reduced. Currently, 87% of static content is distributed through the CDN, resulting in faster website performance and reduced server load.
