The date was Pahalgam, Jammu, and Kashmir, April 22, 2025; terror interrupted the serenity of the Baisaran Valley. Of the 26 innocents gunned down, one was 31 year old Shubham Dwivedi of Kanpur, newly married. He and his wife, Aishnya, were on a family trip when a terrorist confronted them and shot Shubham at close range.
“They asked for our religion. We smiled and said Hindu. Then they shot him in the head,” Aishnya recollected, quite present with the trauma. The terrorists are suspected to be those from ‘The Resistance Front.’ They left her behind to carry a terrifying message: “Go tell Modi what we did.”
India Strikes Back: Launch of Operation Sindoor
The killing incited national outrage. Within days the Indian government launched a surgical military strike called Operation Sindoor, on terrorist camps across the border: a clear message that India would never so much as bear the sight of bloodshed on its soil.
The name Sindoor-symbolic of the holy mark of a married woman was given in memory of all the widows who had lost their husbands in the Pahalgam carnage.
“My Husband Got Justice”: The Grieving Widow Breaks Her Silence
Breaking her silence, Aishnya Dwivedi praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “This is the justice we prayed for. PM Modi has given peace to my husband’s soul. Our family’s faith in the nation has only grown stronger.”

Families United in Grief and Gratitude
Sangeeta Ganbote, wife of Kaustubh Ganbote, who was also massacred during the attacks, commented, “By naming it ‘Sindoor,’ they honored every woman who lost her husband.” Kaustubh’s son, Kunal, said, “We waited for justice, and this was the right reply. Our pain has found meaning.”
A Country Grieves, Then Resurges
A family holiday turned into an orgy of violence. Taking no half-measures, India responded with the same dignity. Operation Sindoor will forever remain an ode to the departed, a threat to the adversary, and pride in the hearts of every Indian.
