Pakistani Hindu cricketer Mohinder Kumar has both legs amputated after a severe diabetic infection. A heartbreaking story from the world of sports that has shocked cricket fans worldwide.
A Heartbreaking Turn in Pakistan’s Cricket World
A fairly disturbing turn of events in Pakistan, where the local cricket circuit received an update today on tragedy as Hindu former cricketer Mohinder Kumar had both of his legs lost in a tragic accident. Resilient run-getter on the field, the cricketer’s story now shifted from pain, graft + pure suffering.
The Silent Battle Behind the Scenes
Mohinder Kumar never lifted Pakistan’s national colours in a first-class match but the contribution he made to the game for them to deserve a mention is commendable. A right-arm fast bowler between 1976 and 1994, his tally reads 65 first-class matches, 187 wickets at an average below ten and ten five-wicket hauls Oh but off the field diabetes was his stealthy opponent amidst all that accolade. That health issue however turned into a deadly infection in his legs and what was an illness became a life-threatening condition.
When Cricket Turned Into Coaching
Post retirement Mohinder stopped playing cricket completely, as such. He then shifted into coaching and started grooming the lot- Mohammad Sami, Danish Kaneria, Tanvir Ahmed, and Sohail Khan (as mentorees). He had a big role in helping mold the future of Pakistan cricket, albeit out of the spotlight.

A Disease That Changed Everything
The health of Mohinder drastically changed recently when his diabetes took a turn for the worse with a leg infection. Even medical treatment failed after which doctors had no choice but to amputate both of his legs in order to save his life as the infection set in elsewhere. The cricket community is utterly shocked by this medical emergency that has taken away his mobility as well.

Cricket’s Unsung Hero Deserves the Spotlight
Mohinder Kumar at the age of 65 is a poster child that heroes are not only from international matches but have their silent battles as well. His story, as a Hindu cricketer in Pakistan and now a coach and survivor (he has a phrase I love when discussing his journey with him); says a lot of courage. Never having played for the national team the story is one that needs international attention, compassion & support.
