Sonipat farmers will smile this month. The Central Government is to disburse the 20th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, which will benefit approximately 85,000 farmers in the district.

Under this instalment, about ₹17 crore will be directly credited to bank accounts of registered farmers. Upload slots for documents have already been initiated by the Agriculture Department, and the eligible farmers can now finish the remaining formalities to receive their amount.

Document Upload Slots Now Open

One of the measures has been to facilitate the farmers by providing additional time slots for submission of documents. Already registered farmers under the PM-KISAN scheme can now upload delayed documents and validate their status for the next payment.

News emerged that while most have finished their paperwork, there are thousands who yet have not taken the last few steps towards receiving the next ₹2,000 payment.

Over 11,000 Farmers Still To Finish KYC

Out of the 85,000 farmers eligible for this round, over 11,000 have still not finished their Know Your Customer (KYC) process. It is a mandatory process, and without it, no payment will be made.

The KYC verification assures that the scheme does not find its way to fake farmers. But through ignorance or procrastination, many stand to lose out on this much-desired relief.

Help Desks Established in Agriculture Offices

For assisting the farmers who are facing the paperwork or the online process, help desks have also been established at agriculture offices throughout the district. There are staff members present who can assist the farmers with the KYC and document uploading process so no farmer is left behind.

All such eligible farmers under PM-KISAN are given ₹6,000 per year in three equal payments of ₹2,000 each. But the funds are disbursed only on registration success and document verification.

The plan has proven to be an economic savior for India’s million plus tiny and marginal farmers. In Sonipat, the government is urging farmers to hurry and get the KYC done before the deadline so that they don’t miss the 20th installment.

To them, even this small quantity is a great assistance to cater to day-to-day agricultural requirements whether for seeds or fertilizers or managing homes during hard times.

Farmers are requested to visit the nearest help desk or contact their district agriculture officer for assistance.
