There is a viral post that is trending on social media in which it is claimed that the retirement age of the central government has been increased by two years. Currently, the retirement age of central government employees are 60 years but now it will be 62 years. Nowadays, this is a big matter of discussion among central employees about the impact of this decision. Will they get any benefit from this decision?
After verification of this news by the Press Information Bureau, this seems to be Fake.

Viral Post Claims: A Closer Look
As per the post, it is mentioned that the cabinet has decided to increase the retirement age by two years and has also approved the same. Again, in the viral post, it was mentioned that this decision will be effective from 1st April 2025. Under this proposal, employees can work an additional two years, ie, up to 62 years. Again, in this post, it has been mentioned what will be the benefit to the employees as well as the government after this decision.
The reasons mentioned in the post include:
Rising life expectancy: It has been mentioned that Life expectancy in India rise in recent decades from 61.4 to 72.24 year in 2024.
The second reason mentioned that government recognized the value of experienced empoyees as experienced employees can more add more value by contributing as compare to new hiring.
The third reason is that it will reduce the pension cost for the government.
Administrative Continuity will be the add-on benefit from this decision.

After looking in this viral Post on 19 November 2024 government fact checking arm clarified that no such decision had been made by the government of India regarding the increase in retirement age. They mentioned that this message is False and nothing to do with Central government.
