During the promotional tour for her film ‘Emergency’, she confessed to have turned down not one but two mega-budget movies from superstar Salman Khan. Ironically, the very films turned out to be blockbusters at the box office and ascended some other actresses to superstardom.

This One No-for Salman Khan’s Role:

Kangana thought that those characters didn’t seem to be meaty or impactful enough so she turned back. She wanted something that challenged her artistically and not just space on screen. But destiny had its own plans and those two films became blockbusters along with their leading ladies turned into household names. As for the experience, she recalls Salman reacting to her ‘no’ with a half-joking, half-serious line, “What more can I offer you?”—now reverberating as a dramatic twist in her journey.

No Khan? No Problem: Kangana’s Unscathed Path of Career

The actresses of Hindi films still fight to earn the honor to act alongside the Khan, son of Salman, Shah Rukh, and Aamir. Kangana is different and has a different feather in her cap. She plays the real protagonist in the film which is female-centric; that is, be it a fearless spy in ‘Dhaakad’, a tight political person in ‘Thalaivii’ or her latest role in ‘Emergency’ as Indira Gandhi, Kangana holds tall without a Khan co-star.

Emergency: Acclaimed, Missed From Cinemas

The January 2025 release ‘Emergency’ saw Kangana don not only the hat of an actor but also a director. The bold storytelling and slippages into the late Prime Minister earned praise from critics. Yet none of the hype translated into the kind of box office returns that one usually expects from blockbusters.

Salman’s ‘Sikandar’ also fizzles, but now takes the heat of the discussion.

Interestingly, the actor’s last release, ‘Sikandar’, with Rashmika Mandanna and Kajal Aggarwal, also busted at the box office. Not that the focus, now, isn’t on Kangana’s revelation but on creating a heat of discussion across Bollywood as to whether she really let go of roles that could have catapulted her into a different stratosphere of stardom.
