Tata Punch EV vs MG Comet EV : Indian cities are troubled by traffic and squeezed by rising fuel prices, and tiny electric cars are gradually hitting the sweet spot of rationality in urban motoring. By 2025, the two major contenders in this segment would be the Tata Punch EV and the MG Comet EV, made keeping in mind the city lifestyle, easy parking, low-cost running, and silence. But do they make sense for the Indian buyer? Let’s find out.
Tata Punch EV comes from the reasonably successful Punch micro-SUV. The Punch EV is built keeping in mind certain practical requirements, such as a rugged design, high ground clearance, and cabin space for small families. The batteries use Tata’s proven Ziptron EV Technology and are available in two ranges-Medium Range (MR) and Long Range (LR).
The Long Range variant claims anything above 300 km of range, which is more than sufficient for a week’s worth of city driving. Premium features such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a digital driver display, six airbags, and fast charging add to the premium and futuristic feel of the Punch EV. Adding even more appeal to it are features such as vehicle-to-vehicle charging support and a very practical cargo area with a decent 366-litre boot.

The MG Comet EV alternatively focuses sharply on city cruising. The compact size of the Comet EV allows it to buzz in and out of traffic whilst slotting neatly into tight parking spots. From outside, it may appear small, but it delights with generous internal dimensions for two adults in front, flavors of funky design, and a modern ambiance.
The Comet EV comes fitted with a 17.3 kWh battery that has an approximate range of about 230 km on a full charge. Dual 10.25-inch screens, connected car technology, and voice commands set it all up reasonably and make it truly suited for a single person or couple.

The Comet is priced lower than the Punch, with a starting price for the MG Comet EV below ₹ 7.5 lakh (ex-showroom), while Punch’s price starts from around ₹ 10.9 lakh. If size and price are the two major considerations, which justify the Comet? Otherwise, for bigger space, more ground clearance, and longer range, it is the Punch that is a better deal.
