In today’s time, when pollution rules for vehicles are getting stricter, companies have also started focusing on new technologies apart from traditional petrol-diesel. Demand for battery electric vehicles (BEV) as well as strong hybrid cars is also increasing. Right now there are not many hybrid options for the general customer – only a few vehicles like Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyrider and Honda City e:HEV are available. But now this picture is going to change in the coming time. Let’s know about 5 new hybrid SUVs that will be launched in India soon:
1. Maruti Suzuki’s new 7-seater hybrid SUV
Maruti is working on a new three-line SUV, which will be based on the platform of Grand Vitara. This SUV has been codenamed Y17 and it will be brought to the market by the end of 2025. It will have the same 1.5-liter 3-cylinder Atkinson-cycle petrol engine and 177.6-volt lithium-ion battery pack, which is already being used in Grand Vitara and Highrider. The design will also be quite different and new.
2. Maruti Fronx Hybrid
Maruti is going to bring a facelift version of its popular Fronx car, in which the company will use its own developed HEV series-hybrid system. Not much information is available about it at the moment, but it is believed that a 1.2-liter Z12E petrol engine will be installed in it. This hybrid version can also be introduced in the Indian market by the end of 2025.
3. Toyota’s new 7-seater hybrid SUV
Toyota is also preparing to add a new 7-seater SUV to its portfolio. This vehicle will be based on the platform of Urban Cruiser Highrider. It will have the same 1.5 liter petrol engine and strong hybrid system which will come with a 177.6 volt battery. The launch of this model can happen soon after Maruti’s Y17 SUV.
4. Kia Seltos Hybrid
Kia Motors will launch the new generation version of its popular Seltos SUV in India in 2026. A strong hybrid variant will also be introduced with this new model. This vehicle has been seen on Indian roads many times during testing. It is expected that it will get a 1.5 liter 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine and hybrid system, although it is not confirmed yet. Apart from this, big changes will also be seen in the design and interior
5. Hyundai Creta Hybrid
Hyundai is also preparing the next generation version of its bestseller Creta SUV. The new model is codenamed SX3 and will be launched in India by 2027. The next Creta is also likely to bring a strong hybrid system, which could be a combination of a 1.5 liter petrol engine and electric motor. It is believed that its hybrid setup will be shared with Kia Seltos.
Note: The information about all these vehicles is still at an initial stage. As soon as the companies provide the confirmed information, the picture will become clearer.
