Toyota Land Cruiser FJ : The Affordable Off-Road SUV Positioned Below the Fortuner

Toyota Land Cruiser FJ  : Toyota is preparing to bring a brand new SUV in the coming time, which will be named Land Cruiser FJ. This SUV is being designed especially keeping in mind those customers who want a rugged and powerful vehicle like Fortuner, but due to its ever-increasing price, it is now out of their reach. According to reports, this SUV was earlier being talked about bringing in the year 2025, but now its global launch has been postponed till 2026.

On which platform will it be based?

The new Land Cruiser FJ is being built on Toyota’s IMV 0 platform. The same platform has also been used in other Toyota vehicles like Hilux Champ. This platform gives a lot of flexibility so that Toyota can make SUVs of different sizes and prices. This is the reason why FJ is being seen as an affordable but strong SUV.

What will be special in the design?

Toyota is trying to give this SUV a different identity. In this, you can get a glimpse of the old Land Cruiser, such as round headlights and a boxy look. Along with this, new design elements can also be added to it, such as square headlights or a dual setup that was recently seen in the LC 250. Overall, its look will be a mix of retro and modern.

Size and Space

The length of the Land Cruiser FJ will be around 4,550mm, width 1,830mm, height 1,860mm and wheelbase 2,750mm. Its size can be somewhat similar to the Corolla Cross, but its height will be higher, which will give it a boxy and off-roading-suitable shape. Due to this, it will be able to run easily even on rough roads.

Engine and Power

Toyota is considering several engine options for this SUV. You can potentially get:

  • 1.5L diesel engine
  • 2.0L petrol engine
  • 2.7L petrol engine (2TR Series) – This engine is the most likely and will produce around 163 PS of power.

Although there was talk of a 2.8L diesel engine (1GD), its inclusion is unlikely at the moment, especially when the production of the LC 250 diesel model is being delayed.

Driving technology and features

Being an SUV, it can be given a full time 4WD system, which will have Torsen limited slip differential and multiple driving modes. The same features are also seen in the LC 250 and looking at them it is clear that despite the low price, the fun of off-roading will be full.

Price and possibility of coming to India

The starting price of this SUV is said to be around 4 million yen (₹22.80 lakh) and the top variant is priced at around 4.5 million yen (₹25.65 lakh). Toyota will first launch it in the global market and then after seeing the market response, it can also introduce it in India. If it comes to India, it will be a great option for those customers who want a strong, stylish and budget friendly SUV.
