VinFast’s Premium EV : Vinfast is all set to enter India with its electric cars. This Vietnamese automobile company is now going to enter the Indian market and will initially focus on the premium segment. The company plans to make India a big electric vehicle hub, although in the first phase it will bring only limited models.

More expensive and bigger models like VF 8 and VF 9 will not be brought to India, as these cars are made for markets like America and Europe. In India, the company’s focus will be on the slightly smaller but premium electric SUV segment. Initially, Vinfast will launch two models VF 6 and VF 7, which will compete directly with vehicles like Tata Harrier EV and Hyundai Creta Electric.

According to a report by Times of India, the company will start booking for both these models from the last weeks of June. First VF 7 will be launched and then the delivery of VF 6 will start. It is expected that the first consignment will reach India at the end of this quarter or the beginning of the next quarter.

Now if we talk about these two models, then VF 7 is bigger in size and its design has also been kept a bit premium. Its length is 4,545 mm, width 1,890 mm and height 1,636 mm, while the wheelbase is 2,840 mm. In Vietnam, this car is available in two variants – one with a 130 kW (ie 174 hp) and the other with a 150 kW (ie 201 hp) motor. Both variants have a front motor. The first variant has a 59.6 kWh battery which can cover a distance of about 498 kilometers. At the same time, the second variant comes with a 70.8 kWh battery and it can run about 496 kilometers.

On the other hand, VF 6 is a slightly smaller model, which will compete directly with Hyundai Creta Electric. Its length is 4,241 mm, width 1,834 mm and height 1,580 mm. Its wheelbase is 2,730 mm. It also has two front motor variants – one with 130 kW and the other with 150 kW power. Both have a 59.6 kWh battery, which gives one variant a range of 480 km and the other about 460 km.

These cars will be manufactured in Vietnam but will be brought to India in CKD (Completely Knocked Down) form and assembled at the company’s new plant in Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu. The initial production capacity of this plant will be 50,000 units per year and it will be increased to 1.5 lakh units later.

However, the price of these cars may be slightly higher than those companies that make their products in India with more localization. Still, the company’s aim is to create an image of a premium brand and in the coming time it may also enter the mid-range or affordable segment.

In this way, VinFast’s start in India is going to be a bit special, where it is directly targeting the electric SUV segment and trying to create a distinct identity.
