Yamaha’s First Electric Scooter : Another new electric scooter is going to appear on the roads of India, and this time it is not from any small brand, but from the well-known Japanese company Yamaha. Recently, this first electric scooter of Yamaha has been spotted during testing and everything from its design to its specifications is slowly coming to the fore. This scooter is based on River Indie, which is already known as a strong and practical electric scooter in India.

Yamaha’s partnership with River Mobility

This scooter has been codenamed RY01 and its first glimpse has gone viral on the internet. Last year, Yamaha invested $20 million i.e. about 60% stake in a company named River Mobility in Series B funding round. This is the same River Mobility that makes an electric scooter named River Indie. Yamaha is now bringing a new electric scooter based on the same model, which will be made in the same factory where River Indie is made – that is, in the manufacturing unit of Karnataka.

Newness in design, but same identity

The most special thing about this scooter is that its look is completely new and fresh. Although its design clearly reflects River Indie, such as thick front fender, large 14-inch alloy wheel, solid swingarm and a simple but stylish LCD instrument cluster. But many of its design elements are completely new – such as LED headlights, LED pilot lights, new front look and completely different rear light design. Yamaha has removed the side mounting bars that were found in River Indie in its version, due to which the scooter looks a bit clean and sharp.

Will also get power in performance

This new electric scooter of Yamaha will not only be strong in style, but its performance is also expected to be similar to River Indie. It can have the same 6.7 kW electric motor and can also have a 4 kWh battery, due to which it can run up to 161 kilometers on a single charge. It can come with three riding modes — Eco, Ride and Rush — which will give the user different driving experiences.

Yamaha’s bet in increasing competition

Yamaha’s First Electric Scooter

Yamaha’s entry is happening at a time when Honda has also launched its first electric two-wheeler in the market and Suzuki is going to launch its e-Access soon. In such a situation, the competition in the electric two-wheeler segment has increased a lot and Yamaha is also now moving fast in this race.

Launch timeline and possibilities

Regarding the launch of this scooter, it is being speculated that it can be launched in India during this year’s festive season i.e. around Diwali. Right now the scooter is in the testing phase and more changes can be seen in it in the coming months.
