The 12th of April, 2025, marks Lord Hanuman’s birth a very strong devotee. This day is observed all over India with different prayers, rituals, and offerings that are usually favorites of Lord Hanuman meetha roti being one of them. It is a sweet flatbread offering believed to be a favorite of Lord Hanuman.

Importance of Meetha Roti in Worship of Lord Hanuman

It has always been considered of great importance and when the worship of Hanuman is specially performed this sweet dish is offered. It is said that such an offering of sweet-tooth treats the mighty Lord Hanuman and, in return will bless the devotee with valor, intellect and salutation towards himself

 

Ingredients of Meetha Roti

 

To carry out this holy offering the following ingredients are required:

2 cups whole wheat flour

½ cup finely chopped or grated jaggery

2 tablespoons desi ghee (clarified butter)

2 tablespoons dry grated coconut

½ teaspoon cardamom powder

½ cup raw milk (add more as necessary)

More desi ghee for frying 

Preparation Method in Increasing Order of Difficulty 

 

  1. Base Mixing: In a mixing bowl, combine the wheat flour and melted 2 tablespoons ghee. Using one’s hands mix until the flour has attained a crumbly texture.
  1. Sweetening and Flavoring: To this flour mixture, add the jaggery piece-wise, making it distribute evenly. Add cardamom powder and dry coconut into this mixture.
  1. Kneading the Dough: Knead into a hard dough while gradually pouring in raw milk. Cover this and set aside for about ten minutes. 
  1. Rotis Shaping: After the dough had rested, divide it up into smaller portions. Roll each piece into discs thicker than a regular roti but slightly smaller. 
  1. Frying: Heat up ghee in a pan over medium heat. Fry the first roti on both sides until it becomes golden brown then place it on absorbent paper. 

Offering of Meetha Roti When finished cooking, place the Meetha Rotis on a clean plate and present the rotis to Lord Hanuman with full devotion, prayers, and chants. The blessings can thus be shared within family and friends.
