Most people finish the day lying in bed and relaxing with their smartphone; this for them is the real deal. But studies say the opposite. Research featured by Healthline along with a study from Norway shows that even an hour of phone use before bedtime can cut your actual sleep by 24 minutes. And to think that insomnia risk plummets up by a whopping 59 percent.

Blue light from the phone screen is the prime villain. It halts melatonin the one hormone that enables you to fall asleep naturally. Less melatonin means more alertness in the brain: falling asleep becomes a challenge. Scrolling chitchatting, distracting games Mentally it’s sharp and stimulating. 

And this mental overstimulation, keeping you awake, is also equally good at ruining your sleep.
